Shannon’s Story-Being a “Good Girl”

Published On: October 1st, 2023

Welcome to Episode 18 of our podcast, where we have the privilege of welcoming former student Shannon to our virtual studio. Shannon’s journey takes us back to her years at the church and school, spanning from 1999 to 2011, alongside her family. In this candid conversation, Shannon unveils the intricate dynamics of navigating a system where conformity was essential for survival, as the specter of physical harm loomed persistently. Evolution into the “good girl” became her status quo. She recounts the intense struggle to grasp normal teenage experiences while grappling with a world where the church and school increasingly asserted control over her life, with her parents earnestly believing they knew what was best. Join us as Shannon sheds light on her perspective and personal evolution within this complex environment.
